Why buy just a house or a condo when you can be part of an award winning green cohousing community in the downtown Silver Spring Arts & Entertainment District?
Eastern Village was one of the first residential buildings in the world to earn a LEED rating from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). USGBC gave Eastern Village a certified LEED Silver rating in September 2005 for environmental performance. In 2005, the National Association of Home Builders named Eastern Village the "Green Project of the Year." Eastern Village won the Excellence in Design Award for Multi-Use Residential Development, from Environmental Design + Construction Magazine in 2005.
Cohousing is a type of intentional, collaborative housing in which residents actively participate in the design and operation of their community. The building's physical design encourages both individual space and social contact. Private homes contain all the features of conventional homes, but residents also have access to extensive common facilities such as a courtyard, playroom, and a common house.
